ICE RINKS TO OPEN EARLY JANUARY AT CENTRAL ATHLETIC COMPLEX

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 22, 2016

Wheaton, Ill.—Due to unseasonably warm temperatures forecasted this holiday weekend and the need to make minor customizations to the facility’s chilling system, two lighted, outdoor ice rinks are now expected to open for free public use at the Wheaton Park District’s Central Athletic Complex (500 S. Naperville Rd., Wheaton, Ill.) in early January 2017.

The district will announce the rinks’ opening through a press release, social media channels, and onsite signage. Officials are also planning to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11A on January 14.

“We want to do it right,” said Wheaton Park District Executive Director Mike Benard. “We want to take our time and make these new amenities the best they can possibly be. We also want to remind everyone that when the red flags are flying, we ask them to please stay off the ice. Not doing so could cause damage to the cooling pipes. Green means go and red means no.”

Once open, the rinks will accommodate up to 288 skaters on the east side of the complex’s athletic fields. Measuring 5,800 square feet, the smaller of the pair will host ice hockey, and the larger, coming in at 8,600 square feet, will host open skate. Skate rental and concessions will not be provided.

Guests can check the status from home and subscribe to the district’s Rainout Line for frequent updates at wheatonparkdistrict.com/status-updates.
