Fun Run in Color

Saturday, April 9 | 8:30A | In-Person* & Virtual Race Options

Fun Run in Color is presented by Wheaton Park District and Rotary Club of Wheaton AM

This is no old-fashioned run. This is the Fun Run in Color.

Here’s how it works: You show up in your brightest white shirts, shorts, and shoes and we shower you along the route with vibrant color made from safe, food-grade, biodegradable cornstarch. By the time you cross the finish line, you’ll be a brilliant color palette of warm and cool hues. With wave starts, four color stations, and a final color toss at the after-party, you’re guaranteed to go home wearing colors you’ve never worn before. Have no fear, these colors are non-toxic and easily come off in the wash.

* In-person race steps off at Main & Seminary. See Fun Run Route Map 2022 (PDF) for details.

Event Details & Policies:

The color is food-grade quality cornstarch that is biodegradable, non-toxic and 100% safe. Volunteers will be located at color stations with bulk buckets of color. Each color station will feature a new color. As runners pass, the volunteers will toss the color. If you are pregnant, or experience asthma, consulting your doctor before running is strongly encouraged. Some people will wear a bandana over their face to inhibit any additional dust in their face. There are paths that allow you to avoid color if you wish.

Spectators are able to watch participants run at the start and finish lines. Spectators may not enter the course or color station areas.

What is the Fun Run in Color?
A fun run is an untimed run open to all abilities, from the avid runner to families. Participants can run or walk the route. There will be four different color stations throughout the course. The race starts at approximately 8:30A.

Who does this race benefit?
The Rotary Club of Wheaton AM, in conjunction with the Wheaton Park District, is sponsoring the Fun Run in Color 2022 to benefit local Rotary-supported charities and the Play for All Playground & Garden Foundation. Money will go toward creating play for all at the Sensory Garden Playground in Lisle, IL.

Are there any Race Bundles?
We have our Race Wheaton bundle up until June 4. Challenge yourself to a 5K each season in 2022. Start off with the Fun Run in Color in April, tackle the Cosley Zoo Run for the Animals in June, and keep the momentum going with the Night Run in October and complete the year with the festive Reindeer Run in December.

What should I wear?
White clothing is encouraged in order for the color to be seen, but participants can wear different colors or costumes as well. Participants should wear clothes and shoes they don’t mind getting dirty. Cold water and washing the clothes and shoes right away will help get the items clean. While the color is 100% safe and food grade quality cornstarch, runners may choose to take extra precaution and wear eye and mouth protection.

When is Packet Pickup?
Packet pickup will be held at the Community Center, 1777 S Blanchard St., Wheaton, from 10A-7P on Thursday, April 7. If you can’t make it that day, you can pickup everything you need the day of the race at the race location. Packet Pickup will close 15 minutes before the race starts on race day.

What should I bring to keep my items clean?
Participants are encouraged to bring towels and blankets to cover the seats of their cars. If bringing a camera or phone, participants are encouraged to keep it in plastic wrap or a plastic bag.

Are strollers allowed?
Strollers are not encouraged, but may participate if they wait until the last wave. The runners’ safety is of utmost importance, therefore, bicycles, in-line skates, and other wheeled vehicles (except wheelchairs) are not allowed.

Can my pet participate?
Pets are NOT permitted in this race. This is for the safety of your pet. Service animals must be approved by the race directors prior to race day.

Can I participate if I am pregnant or have a medical condition?
While the color is 100% safe and non-toxic, this decision is for the participant and their doctor. Extra precaution is strongly advised.

How do I volunteer?
Volunteers are essential to the success of the race. All volunteers receive a short sleeve t-shirt. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Brian Morrow at bmorrow@wheatonparks.org or sign up here.
