Go Fly a Kite in Wheaton Park District’s Graf Park on May 6
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wheaton, Ill.—Spring brings blue skies, and the Wheaton Park District’s free Go Fly a Kite event on May 6, 10A-2P in Graf Park (1855 Manchester Rd., Wheaton, Ill.) will bring hundreds of kites.
The record is 843 kites in the air simultaneously, said Superintendent of Marketing & Special Events Kristina Nemetz, and “this year, we’d really like to break it.”
Guests can bring their own kite or purchase one from an onsite vendor, then participate in the grand launch at 11A. After an hour of aerobatics, the Chicago Fire Kite Team will demonstrate their skills at noon. The Highest Flying Kite Contest follows at 1P, and the Most Unique Kite Contest and Kids Candy Drop finish the day’s organized activities at 1:30P.
“Go Fly a Kite is a laidback event on a Saturday,” Nemetz said, “so we see a lot of families with young children, first-timers, and kite aficionados who want to practice for the summer.”
All ages are welcome at this free, family friendly event. No registration is required. Parking is available in the lot to the north of the DuPage County Fairgrounds; from there, Graf Park is accessible over a bridge. Handicap parking is available off Manchester Rd. by the playground.
Concessions presented by the Wheaton Rams football program will be available.
