Picnic Area Rentals

The perfect event space is just steps away! Our parks and facilities offer the perfect setting for your birthday, family gathering, school picnic or wedding.

  • Picnic Area rentals begin January 2 for the upcoming rental season.
  • Picnic area rental season runs year-round except for cabins, which run from September – April.
  • A Wheaton Park District household account is required in order to rent a picnic area.
    • Wheaton Park District residents may create a household account by visiting the Community Center. Details
  • Nonresidents can set up a household account by calling the Park Services Center at 630-653-5429 or the Community Center at 630-690-4880.

Interested in renting a picnic area for your upcoming event? Please find all the necessary information below. Picnic Area rentals can be made online, by phone or in person at Park Services Center, 1000 Manchester Rd. Wheaton, IL 60187. Questions about picnic space rentals can be directed to 630-653-5429.

  • Reservations must be made at least 10 days prior to event.
  • Picnic space is reserved for a minimum of 4 hours.
  • Reservation includes the picnic area or shelter, set of existing tables and trash cans. All other facilities and amenities are open to the public.
  • Full payment is due at the time of reservation. In addition, a $100 security deposit is required.
  • Additional fees may be assessed which can result in loss of security deposit. Reasons include, but are not limited to clean-up, excessive garbage left on site, or damage to property.
  • When reserving you are securing the Shelter/Picnic area only. Wheaton Park District parks are public property and are open for others to use.
  • Alcohol is not permitted on park premises.
  • Grills and propane grills are permitted. Hot coals must be extinguished and placed in the hot coal container when provided on site or taken off site with you.
  • No open fires or bonfires are allowed.
  • Groups are responsible for packing up and removing from site all trash that does not fit in the receptacles provided. Please do not leave trash stacked alongside the trash bins. The site will be inspected after each use.

  • Reservations must be made at least 10 days prior to the date requested, and full payment must be received at the time of the reservation. All reservations are subject to park availability.

Picnic space is reserved in 4-hour increments except for level I locations. Reservation Includes the picnic space, set of existing tables, and trash cans. All other facilities and amenities are open to the public. Full payment is due at the time of reservation. In addition, a $100 security deposit is required for each time block. Additional fees may be assessed which can result in loss of security deposit. Reasons include, but are not limited to; staff clean-up, excessive garbage left on site, damage to property.

Onsite vendors must be approved by the Wheaton Park District.  This includes but are not limited to, the following:

  • Food Trucks / Food Vendors
  • DJs
  • Tents of any size
  • All 3rd party vendors coming on site.
  • Photographers
  • Wheaton Park District requires the renter to provide a Certificate of Insurance (C.O.I.) verifying $1,000,000 minimum general liability insurance and $1,000,000 workers compensation insurance. The Wheaton Park District must be named on the Certificate of Insurance as an additional insured.
  • The Certificate of Insurance must include the name of the event as well as the date, time, and location of the event. This must be turned into the Park Services Center no later than 7 business days prior to the event. Renter should email C.O.I. to [email protected] referencing the rental date.
  • If your event is not held due to inclement weather, you will be offered a full refund or a rescheduling opportunity at no charge. (Inclement weather is determined by the Park District). Cancellation policy is not in effect for forecasted weather. You must contact the Parks Department within 24 hours of your date to reschedule or request a refund 630-653-5429 or [email protected].
  • Cancellation and/or rescheduling requests twenty-one (21) days or more in advance of the event date will result in a $15 fee.
  • Cancellation of a rental less than twenty-one (21) days of the event date will result in a forfeiture of 50% of the rental fee. (The security deposit will be refunded in full.) Please note if rescheduling, cancellation policy terms will still be in effect based on the original event date.
  • You must contact the Parks Department 630-653-5429 for all cancellation/reschedule requests.
  • Driving on paths or turf areas is prohibited, including when loading and unloading supplies.
  • Inflatables of any type are prohibited.
  • Decorations cannot be affixed to structures nor can signs be posted on neighborhood easements or park property.
  • Wheaton noise ordinance 7am-7pm with amplification.
  • Due to athletic field use at some locations, parking may be limited.
  • Electricity and running water are not available on site.
  • If you use a vendor on site, they must provide a certificate of insurance (COI) for one million dollars each of liability and workers compensation and the COI must state the Wheaton Park District is listed as additionally insured on this policy. (See Insurance Requirements above)
  • In the event of an emergency please contact the Wheaton Police Department at 911.

Are we allowed to serve alcohol at our event?
Alcohol is not permitted in Wheaton Park District parks/facilities.

Are bouncy houses or other apparatuses allowed?
The Park District does not allow inflatables or other contracted equipment to be used in our parks.

Can I decorate at my event?
Yes, decorations are allowed. We ask that all decorations are removed at the end of the event. Please no stakes in the ground.

Do I need a permit?
Yes, any party over 15 requires a park rental permit. Photo permits are also required along with a certificate of insurance from the photographer.

Can I rent an athletic field?

What is your cancellation policy?

Can we have a food truck/caterer at our event?
Yes, any outside vendor that will be on the park district property is required to provide a certificate of insurance. Food is only allowed to be served to those that are attending the event.

What is needed to use the firepits at Northside Park?
• You must acquire a rental permit from the Park District
• You must obtain a fire permit from the Wheaton Fire Department
• Renter must provide their own firewood

Is there electricity and water at the parks?
No, there is no available electricity or running water.

Does the Park District put out signs that the park is rented?
No, at the time of rental you will receive a permit that can be posted stating that you have the picnic shelter/picnic area rented.

How long is the park open?
All parks open at dawn and close at dusk

What area am I renting?
Picnic shelters or Picnic areas. Playgrounds, athletic fields, and open spaces are to remain open to the public.

Can I bring a grill of my own to use?
Yes. However, if you are using a charcoal grill the coals will need to be disposed of off-site. Dumping coal or ashes in the parks is prohibited.

Who do I contact if there is an issue with my rental?
There are contact numbers listed on your permit. If you have an emergency call 911.

How do I make changes to my reservation?
