WHEATON—With breezy winds and sufficient loft prevailing, the skies above Wheaton will be dotted with creatively decorated kites Saturday, May 6, when the Wheaton Park District presents “Go Fly A Kite.”

The free kite fly will take place beginning at 10 a.m. in Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road, Wheaton and lasting until 1 p.m.

Beginners, intermediate and expert kite flyers are welcome. Kite flyers may bring their own kites or purchase kites at the event.

Things get started when the park opens at 10 a.m. with a vendor expo, Gift of Wings kite sales and the Curious Crow food truck.

A grand launch is set for 11 a.m., along with a kite team performance.

That’s followed by a “Most Unique Kite” contest at 11:30 a.m.

Next, there’s a Kids’ Mad Dash and a “Highest Flying Kite” contest at 12:30 p.m.

Megann Panek, manager of the Mary Lubko Center, is heading up the park district team presenting the event. She said the hope is for a warm, sunny, windy day, much like it was in 2022. In the event of inclement weather, please check our website for weather updates.

“Last year was a stunningly beautiful day,” she said.

So, come out and dazzle your friends and neighbors with your kite-flying prowess and take in this springtime spectacle!

Go Fly a Kite is sponsored by the Wheaton Eye Clinic, Wheaton Bank and Trust, and Smile Doctors.
