Wheaton, IL – On Wednesday, October 29, 2014, the DuPage County Historical Museum presented its first “Making a Historical Difference Award” to Daniel L. Goodwin, Chairman & CEO for The Inland Group of Real Estate Companies. Celebrated throughout DuPage County and beyond for his lifetime contributions to local business, economic development, philanthropy, and civics, the Museum Foundation Board selected Mr. Goodwin for his positive impact and ongoing legacy in DuPage County.

The dinner gala was held at Arrowhead Golf Club and featured a video montage of Mr. Goodwin’s accomplishments and leadership in the community, as well as presentations by County Board Chairman Dan Cronin and Michael Benard, DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation Board Member.

“Dan Goodwin is a model citizen, businessman, and leader within our County,” said Michael Benard. “His commendable actions leave a positive impression and lead the way for a hopeful future.”

“This evening we honor Dan Goodwin for four decades of service to our community,” said DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin during remarks. “Dan has generously contributed his time, countless talents and resources to improve our quality of life. All of us are the fortunate beneficiaries of his generosity.”

“I’m somewhat embarrassed by all the publicity because throughout my life I have refrained from talking about my charitable and civic activities,” said Dan Goodwin. “Instead, I have concentrated on public relations and marketing for my businesses, and have kept my personal endeavors private until this award focused attention on them. Looking back over the years, I feel fortunate that I have been in a position to help others, and I am extremely honored and touched by this prestigious award.”

In preparing for the County’s 175th anniversary, the Museum Foundation Board and staff members took an extensive look at modern day history makers from around the community to establish an award recognizing DuPage County citizens who, through the years, have provided leadership, business growth, economic impact, philanthropy, and voluntary civic services, all of which have made a lasting, positive impact on the quality of life for DuPage residents. The group sought local heroes who are woven into the historical fabric of the county.

Through a lifetime of service to DuPage County, Mr. Goodwin has demonstrated leadership by founding and building a local business that has employed thousands of DuPage County residents and stimulated our local economy for over thirty years. Mr. Goodwin has not only contributed generously to local charities and civic organizations but has volunteered his time as a board member and strategic advisor for more than 16 local organizations.

Together with the “Making a Historical Difference Award,” Mr. Goodwin has received a total of 30 awards and honors from local agencies and charities for his passionate donation of time and resources to the DuPage community and beyond.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation.
