There will be an in-person community feedback meeting opportunity at Toohey Park on September 10 at 5:30P.
Toohey Park—home to a playground and Safety City—has served our community well for many years. As the park and playground age, we believe it is important to begin exploring upgrades to its amenities and playground equipment.
We would value your input in helping us identify the community’s priorities for the park’s future development.
The Wheaton Park District is seeking grant assistance for Toohey Park improvements through the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant that is funded through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR).
Please complete the following survey by September 8, 2025.

In-Person Meeting on September 5 & Online Survey
The District invites people with disabilities and their family members to share their preferences and priorities regarding accessibility.
The Wheaton Park District is completing a Transition Plan for existing parks and facilities, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). “We have made many accessibility improvements in parks and facilities, and it is important to the District that our parks and facilities are usable by people of all abilities,” said Rob Sperl, Director of Parks and Planning. The Park District has retained The W-T Group, LLC (WTG) Accessibility Practice to help complete this ADA requirement.
One of the ADA Transition Plan requirements is to seek public feedback on access priorities and preferences. This helps the District better understand what is important to the community. Two meetings will occur on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, in the Rathje Room (#214) at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard St., Wheaton. The first meeting is at 1:00 p.m. and the second will be held at 6:00 p.m. Both meetings will last 60 to 90 minutes.
John McGovern of the WTG Accessibility Practice will review the ADA requirements for existing parks and facilities, discuss some factors other park districts and recreation departments have considered in setting priorities, and share some images of what the WTG access audit teams saw at Wheaton Park District sites. Then, importantly, the audience shares information about their access priorities, helping to shape the transition plan.
Please RSVP by reaching Brian Morrow at 630-510-4975 or [email protected].
A sign language interpreter will be available at the meeting.
In addition to the two in-person meetings, a brief Online Survey will be used to collect feedback regarding the access priorities and preferences of District parks and facilities users. The survey link is available below.
